Magnet Crater Lake Topo Crater Lake National Park covers 249 square miles (64,500 hectares) and was established May 22, 1902. Crater Lake, a volcanic caldera, was created when 12,000ft (3,660m) high Mt. Mazama collapsed 7,700 years ago following a large eruption. Crater Lake, the deepest lake in the U.S. and the 7th deepest in the world, measures 1,943ft (592 m) in depth. On average 533 inches (1354cm) of snow falls in the park. Mt Scott, the highest point in the park is 8,929ft (2,721m).
